Introduction

"Lightness of the bird that does not need to own the forest, not even a single tree to sing..."

These words by Christian Bobin echo as an invitation to discover my collection, "POETIC FICTIONS," a homage to freedom and imagination.

This semi-abstract collection delicately and profoundly portrays stylized birds and sailboats striving to rise above the limits of reality. Each canvas becomes an open window to a universe where poetry and art intertwine.

Inspiration Behind the Collection

Inspired by the great Romantic poets of the 19th century - John Keats, William Blake, Walt Whitman, and William Wordsworth - "POETIC FICTIONS" reflects an artistic vision where freedom, imagination, and nature’s beauty take center stage. For these poets, nature was an infinite source of contemplation, a space where the soul could ascend, and imagination flourished to create new worlds.

The birds and sailboats in this collection are not merely pictorial subjects; they embody an innate longing for escape, a deep desire to transcend the tangible and access a spiritual realm - the realm of poetry and the infinite.

The brushstrokes, which seem to dance across the canvas, reflect this yearning for freedom, an irrepressible urge to rise beyond constraints.

Symbolism in Birds, Sailboats, and Seascapes

Each element in "POETIC FICTIONS" conveys a silent story imbued with symbolism:

  • Birds: Universally representing freedom, birds soar lightly above earthly concerns. Their recurring presence illustrates a quest for the spiritual, a longing for ultimate liberation.
  • Sailboats: Symbols of journey and exploration, they sail towards the unknown, propelled by imaginary winds that push them beyond imposed boundaries. Sailboats also signify the creative solitude and determination of the artist who charts their path despite worldly constraints.
  • Seascapes: The ocean, vast and elusive, is a metaphor for infinity and possibilities. Its shifting waves evoke imagination in perpetual motion, an indomitable force of renewal.

Stylized and abstract, these elements invite viewers to engage their imagination. Every gaze can recreate a new story filled with whimsy—a “poetic fiction.”

Artistic Techniques: Dancing Colors and Movements

If my colors were words, I would write them with a quill…

In "POETIC FICTIONS," brushes do not simply trace—they dance, crafting fluid, dynamic movements that seem to transcend the flatness of the canvas. Carefully selected palettes - reminiscent of auroras in some imaginary seascapes - capture a duality of softness and power. Deep blues evoke ocean depths; warm tones recall sunsets; and luminous shades suggest lightness and hope.

The interplay of smooth and textured surfaces mirrors the contrasts between dreams and reality.

Each painting becomes a visual symphony where brush movements compose a melody. This intuitive approach creates a dreamlike atmosphere, an invitation to escape time itself.

Freedom and Imagination as Central Themes

Freedom - as a concept, a source of inspiration, and a perpetual quest - forms the core of "POETIC FICTIONS." True creativity, in my view, cannot exist without freedom: the freedom to dream, to express through shapes, colors, movements, and words; the freedom to explore and transcend the rigidities of our modern world, which seeks to reduce us to numbers, mere pawns on life’s chessboard. This is why every canvas in "POETIC FICTIONS" seeks to break free from its frame, defying conventions to open a window to another world.

This idea is encapsulated in the term "fiction": a poetic fiction is not merely an invented story but an invitation to see beyond appearances. This vision infuses each painting, granting viewers the liberty to form their interpretations.

An Ode to Poetry and Dreams

Why does my collection speak of "POETIC FICTIONS"? Because, in my eyes, true poetry lies in the heart and soul of the beholder. Just as imagination opens the mind’s windows, poetry offers the ability to feel and see beyond things.

As Leonardo da Vinci once wrote, "Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen."

"POETIC FICTIONS" is a collection celebrating the beauty of imagination and freedom. It invites us to dream, to cross the borders of reality and explore realms where poetry takes form through colors and movements.

In every canvas, birds, sailboats, and seascapes become messengers of the infinite, reminding us that true beauty resides in the creative impulse and the ability to see beyond the surface.

Through my collection "POETIC FICTIONS", I hope each viewer finds a fragment of freedom, a touch of dreamlike lightness to guide them on their path to awakening.
