THE STORY BEHIND
Introduction
“It is when there is something above life that life becomes beautiful.”
These words by Jean d’Ormesson capture the spiritual drive and endless fascination that have animated me since childhood - a fascination for the sky, the stars, and the mysteries of the universe.
My abstract collection "CELESTIAL VISIONS" envisions the beyond as I dream it: a timeless space where beauty and eternity converge, allowing imagination - source of inspiration and creativity - to reign supreme.
The Inspiration Behind the Collection
As a child, on summer evenings, my parents, my brother, and I would sit on a bench in our garden to gaze at the starry sky while my father played the guitar.
I was only seven years old, utterly mesmerized by the magical nocturnal spectacle. I recall asking my father, who now rests among those wondrous stars:
• “Daddy are those stars far away?”
• “Oh yes! Very, very far! They’re in the infinite space!”
• “Daddy, what does infinite space mean?”
• “Well... when you think you’ve reached it, it is always located a little more beyond!”
From that moment on, I never stopped wanting to get closer to the sky. Unable to do so in this finite, earthly realm, I have spent my life imagining and depicting it on canvases as white as the night is black.
Using iridescent, vibrant, or blended hues, I bring to life the landscapes I see in my dreams, as though awake - hence the title of this collection: "CELESTIAL VISIONS".
Literary and Poetic Inspirations
Beyond my passionate readings about the cosmos, this collection draws its essence from the romantic poetry of 19th-century France and England. Writers such as Alphonse de Lamartine, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, William Wordsworth, John Keats, and Percy Bysshe Shelley celebrated the beauty of nature and the mysteries of existence through lyrical language imbued with extended metaphors, surreal imagery, and chiaroscuro.
I am particularly drawn to this poetic genre for its vibrant homage to the beauty of nature and the simplicity of life, for its raw emotions that hover between hope and despair. At times bordering on existential philosophy, which highlights the individual’s confrontation with the vastness of the universe and the search for meaning, romantic poetry resonates profoundly with my work as an artist.
Overall, my collection "CELESTIAL VISIONS" evokes transcendence, mysticism, and spirituality, inviting viewers to ponder our place in the universe and our connection to the cosmic forces surrounding us.
An Imaginary, Universal, and Inspiring Sky
My collection, "CELESTIAL VISIONS", portrays the sky as I imagine it. The landscapes I paint are never reproductions of existing places. They embody a sky I cherish for its universal belonging: it belongs to everyone, yet no one can claim mastery over it. This eternal, divine space, brimming with perfection and harmony, is a constant source of inspiration - where freedom finds its essence and imagination, its wings.
An Ode to the Sky and Imagination
“The sky is the greatest canvas ever painted.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
"CELESTIAL VISIONS" is an invitation to look up, to dream, and to remember the beauty that surrounds us. Each painting, with its vibrant colors and abstract forms, serves as a window into infinity.
I hope this collection sparks inspiration and offers those who discover it a chance to reconnect with wonder. That's the reason why I dedicate my "CELESTIAL VISIONS" collection to all who have preserved their childlike spirit and continue to marvel, even in the winter of their lives.
My paintings serve as a reminder that we live each day amidst the greatest masterpiece of all: our world. This work of art, of immeasurable worth - so precious it is priceless - deserves our admiration and protection.
