Last Resting Place

There are places that cannot be found on any map, perhaps because they belong neither to Earth nor even to time. Here, light seems to have found its dwelling. It gathers at the heart of the painting into an almost tangible presence, then spreads through space in clouds of gold, ivory, blue and purple. Around it, darkness is not an absence: it becomes the setting necessary for its appearance. Just as night reveals the stars, shadow gives light its full power. But where are we? Inside a distant nebula? At the threshold of an unknown world? Within that beyond which humanity has always tried to imagine, because no human gaze can return with its image? The Last Resting Place may not seek to answer. Rather, it evokes that profoundly human intuition that beyond everything we can see, measure or understand, something remains. An immensity that eludes us and which, precisely because it does, nourishes both our sense of wonder and our search for meaning. The gaze then enters this celestial substance as though crossing a threshold. Contours dissolve, distances become uncertain, and the radiance at its centre could herald either a birth or a return. Everything seems suspended between two states: matter and spirit, the visible and the invisible, the ephemeral and the eternal. Perhaps the sublime arises precisely there: when beauty becomes so vast that it reminds us of our own smallness without ever diminishing us. For before infinity, a human being is almost nothing. And yet, we possess this extraordinary privilege: we can raise our eyes, contemplate what lies beyond us, and be moved by its beauty. The Last Resting Place might therefore be less a place to which we travel than a space we secretly carry within us: the place where our questions cease to await answers and become, in themselves, a form of wonder.
