The Sign

There is a suspended instant in history, a breath stronger than centuries, when heaven bends toward earth. This painting seeks to preserve its vibration. The flaming yet deliberately blurred clouds, veiled in mystery, open like wings; the stars shimmer like words of fire. At the heart of the canvas glimmers the discreet radiance of a promise: a child to be born, the mystery of the Incarnation. The imagined angel need not be visible. His word is written in the very light, in that cascade of brilliance piercing the shadow. “Rejoice, full of grace!” The entire cosmos seems to echo these words, like a symphony of colors and stars. Mary, humble and surrendered, becomes in this vision the key to the infinite. Her “Yes” still resounds, not shouted but whispered, and yet powerful enough to open a new age for the world. The Annunciation is not only a memory. It is a perpetual beginning: every time love takes flesh, every time a child comes into the world, every time light dwells within our darkness, this Angel passes again and whispers once more. Thus, this canvas resembles a silent prayer, a cosmic prayer, where the galaxies themselves lean in to contemplate the mystery of the Word made life, of Heaven wedded to earth.
