Fishing Day in Nineveh

In this painting, forms twist and clash as if the sea itself were roaring under the weight of disobedience. Electric turquoise bursts cut through the deep ochres and browns, evoking the contrast between the light of the divine call and the shadow of flight. One can sense a ship in distress, a hidden whale, and a man in turmoil cast into the waves. The biblical episode of Jonah becomes here a universal metaphor: the refusal to listen, the inner storm that follows, and the salvation that comes only with repentance. The title, “Day of Fishing at Nineveh,” reverses the image: it is not man who fishes, but man who is “fished” by life in order to find his way back.
