Over Land And Seas

There are horizons we simply look at. And then there are those that call to us. In Beyond the Seas, nothing seems truly still. Shapes rise, intersect, break apart, and set off again as if the entire canvas is swept by a powerful longing for somewhere else. Yet that elsewhere remains invisible. It is neither an island, nor a port, nor a clearly defined promised land. It lies beyond. Beyond what the eye can reach. Beyond what we know. Perhaps even beyond what we dare to hope for. The composition seems to revolve around a passage. At the heart of the colors—deep reds, purples, whites, and bursts of orange—something appears to open up. A gap. A possible direction. As if the very matter itself parts to reveal a path whose destination remains unknown to us. Here, the sea could be the sea of all our separations: the stretch between who we are and who we wish to become; between dream and its fulfillment; between two people life has pulled apart; between a past to which we still belong somewhat and a future we know nothing about. Crossing this sea often demands great courage. Because setting out toward an unknown horizon always means leaving something behind on the shore—our certainties, our routines, sometimes a part of ourselves. The large swaths of color on the canvas seem to tell this fundamental hesitation. On the left, the colors surge forward with passion; in the center, they collide and tighten; on the right, the light grows softer, almost pearly. As if the journey inevitably passes through turmoil before finding some form of peace. But Beyond the Seas is not a painting about escape. Rather, it speaks of a call—a mysterious summons that drives certain souls to leave behind the familiar without fully knowing what they hope to find elsewhere. Navigators understand this. Travelers too. Artists, certainly. Perhaps each of us has heard it at some point: the intuition that there is something beyond the horizon line we watch and question. Another life, perhaps. Or simply an answer we will never find if we stay on the shore. So we set out to sea. Not because we know where we are headed, but because one day, staying put becomes more dizzying than leaving. This journey is not merely geographic—it is inward. We spend our lives crossing invisible seas, leaving familiar territories, seeking lands of which we hold no map. Some crossings lead us toward others; some bring us back to ourselves; and others may have no destination at all. They exist simply to teach us that the horizon is not a boundary.
