The Breath Divine

Before the first cry, there was a Breath. Invisible, immaterial, it coursed through the universe, kindling the darkness with its surge. In this painting, that Breath becomes light: a spark leaping from the unknown, cosmic winds unfurling, and at the heart of the tumult, the promise of a birth. It is the Breath that fertilizes matter, that transforms dust into flesh, and shadow into consciousness. Each gleam is like a note of an ancient song, the one the Creator addressed to the world in the moment He called it into being. This Breath, of which Genesis says it “hovered over the waters,” never ceases: it still moves within us, in our lungs, in our souls, like a secret prayer binding us to the First Source of all things.
