In this painting you can imagine a collision between desert and ocean, between scorched earth and liquid currents. The golds and browns, dense and elemental, seem to embody rock or sand, whilst deep, shifting blues unfurl like a surging tide. Between them, reds and violets burst into flames, evoking the persistent tension between the arid and the fluid, the static and the shifting. The eye journeys from one element to another, drawn into zones of contrast where matter is reinvented. Here, the rock appears to melt; there, water seems to turn to mineral.
