The story behind
In this painting, the immaculate sail rises like a protective moon above a sea scattered with turquoise, purple, and gold. The vibrant colors express both splendor and captivity, as though the horizon itself held the traveler back. The work evokes the episode of Ulysses, bound to Calypso’s island, torn between the bewitching charm of eternal love and the burning nostalgia of home. The canvas unfolds as a metaphor of desire and renunciation: to remain in the sweetness of a suspended present, or to face the uncertainty of return. Layers of light suggest the years piling up, marking time like a motionless sea. Yet at the heart of this captivity, the white sail preserves the memory of departure, symbol of the soul that cannot abandon its quest. This work asks: what weighs more heavily, the eternity offered, or the irresistible call of one’s own destiny?
