My Eldorado

In this painting, the sea seems to have lost its boundaries. It merges with the sky, with light, perhaps even with dreams. The horizontal lines suggest an infinite horizon, while long vertical strokes — like masts, rigging, or mysterious signs — cross the composition like the traces of a vessel that has become almost immaterial. At the centre, a burst of white light breaks through the purples, golds and pinks. It irresistibly draws the eye: could this finally be Eldorado, that promised land we pursue without ever knowing whether it truly exists? Yet this Eldorado is not a territory to be conquered. It seems instead to be an inner state of being. The blazing golds may evoke the treasure we seek, but here the treasure lies neither in wealth nor possession. Gold becomes light. It becomes a metaphor for what human beings pursue throughout their journey: a place where their desires, dreams and very existence might finally find fulfilment. And yet, this painting retains a sense of uncertainty. Contours dissolve, perspectives blur, lines tremble. Perhaps because Eldorado recedes as we move towards it. Or perhaps because some destinations exist only to give us the strength to continue the journey. This painting thus seems to express a paradox: we spend our lives searching for an ideal shore, only to discover, little by little, that the true treasure lies in the voyage itself. This painting would then be less the image of a paradise finally reached than of that rare moment when, in the midst of the ocean of existence, we suddenly glimpse why we first set sail. Perhaps, at the end of every crossing, there is a land no map can name. We call it Eldorado because we need a horizon. But the treasure we were seeking in the distance may have been the light that kept us moving forward.
