Boreal Spring (7)

Perhaps beyond our inner winters lie springs whose light we have yet to discover. In this painting, the world seems to slowly emerge from a dream. Pale blues and turquoise hues create a vast, calm, almost silent expanse, while uncertain structures rise at its heart: cliffs, a distant city, masts, sails... It's impossible to tell exactly where the land ends and the sea begins. And it is precisely here that the journey becomes possible. A large white sail rises at the center of the canvas. Though seemingly fragile, it is the strongest shape in the painting. Around it, reds, purples, and oranges blaze as if a dawn has suddenly come to warm a world long asleep. The spring suggested here may not be a seasonal one—it is the spring that follows our own winters. After storms, waiting, and surrender, something within us sometimes sets sail again. A desire is reborn. A light reappears. A sail we believed forever furled fills with wind once more. The word “boreal,” included in the painting’s title, adds an almost mythical dimension to this rebirth: the lands far away, northern lights, a horizon at the edge of the real. The journey thus becomes both an inner voyage and a maritime one. And the small white boat, appearing to move beneath the large sail, takes on a deeply human scale: tiny against the vastness, yet still moving forward. Perhaps that is what hope truly is.
