Quintessence (1191)

This painting unfurls an alchemy of colours that seem to answer one another in successive echoes. At the base, deep violet rises like dense earth, a mysterious matrix from which ardent reds ascend, akin to streams of lava. Then come the blues and turquoises, fluid and clear, spreading out like a celestial sea, until they reach luminous whites that breathe clarity. Each hue becomes an element: fire, water, air, ether… as though the work were recounting the slow ascent towards equilibrium. There is a sense of breath traversing the canvas, linking warm and cool zones, densities and transparencies. Here, matter is no longer merely in fusion: it organises itself into a silent song, a nascent harmony. Perhaps this is the true secret of creation: to unite opposites, to wed forces, in order to bring forth unity.
