The story behind

Between the tormented waves and the incandescent ochre sky, my painting "Fishing Day in Nineveh" unfolds its mystery. It is not merely a maritime scene but an allegory, a journey of the soul, a metaphor for repentance and transformation.

Inspired by the biblical tale of Jonah, the painting captures that pivotal moment when fate wavers - when man, in his flight, collides with the inevitable. Jonah, defying the divine call, embarks toward Tarshish, but the waters rise, the tempest roars, and the lot falls upon him. Cast into the abyss, he descends into the belly of the great sea creature, only to be released upon the shore - purified, ready to be reborn.

Here, shades of yellow - sand, ochre, brown - mingle with electric bursts of vibrant turquoise blue, crafting an atmosphere of tension, peril, and revelation. The turmoil of the sea, the fleeting silhouette of a ship in distress, the intangible yet omnipresent presence of the whale… all is suggested, all is felt. Each shape, each color echoes an inner tempest, a wave of transformation.

Even the title, A Day of Fishing in Nineveh, reinforces this symbolism. Fishing - far from being a simple act - becomes a symbol of repentance and redemption, a quest, an awakening. Like a net cast into the depths of the soul, it urges reconciliation, inner metamorphosis. For beyond punishment, this is ultimately a tale of forgiveness and renewal.

Through this work, the viewer is invited into a moment of contemplation. Perhaps they will see in it their own journey, their own wanderings, their own storm. Perhaps, in the frozen turbulence of the scene, they will recognize that every fall carries within it the seed of a return to light.

For is this not the fate of every lost soul?
To stray, to struggle - then finally, to be reborn...
